What Does It Mean to be a Follower of Jesus?

The following Bible study is designed to teach you what it means to be a follower of Jesus.  The questions you might want to ask yourself as you read the following Bible passages are: Do I understand what it means to be a follower of Jesus?  Do I want to be a follower of Jesus?  Am I a follower of Jesus?  Do I believe what these Bible passages say?

Introduction

Write down as much as you can remember about what the Bible teaches about Jesus.

 

If someone asked you, "Who do you think Jesus is?" or "What do you believe to be true about Jesus?" how would you answer?  Think about that for a moment and write down your answer below.

Now read the following Bible passages and answer the questions that follow each passage.

HEBREWS 1:1–13

Verse 1.  How does this verse say that God spoke?

Verse 2.  How else has God spoken?

Verses 2,3.  What do we learn about the Son in these verses?

Who do you think the Son is? 
Why?

JOHN 3:16–17

What do these verses teach us about God?

What do these verses teach us about the Son?

ROMANS 3:21–26

Verse 23.  What has happened to all people according to this verse?

Explain what the word "sin" means to you. 
If people have sinned they do not have a right (good) relationship with God.  Read the following verses and tell how God makes people right with Himself.

What does a person deserve because of sin?

But what does God give people? 1 TIMOTHY 1:15

What is the truth this verse says you should accept?

ROMANS 5:6–8

According to these verses, what kind of people were we when Jesus Christ died

Why did Jesus die? Why was Jesus raised from death?

ACTS 16:1–34

Read the story about Paul and Silas.  Answer the following questions.

Why were Paul and Silas put in jail?

What unusual thing happened while Paul and Silas were in jail?

Verse 30.  What did the jailer ask Paul and SilasVerse 34.  How did the jailer and his family feel after these events? 

Why ?

Summary and Review

All of the above Bible passages teach us things that a follower of Jesus should agree with and must believe.   Look back through the answers you wrote.  Write down a brief summary of your answers on the lines below.
